So I've been on a bit of a staycation with regard to personal projects/writing since finishing some academic pursuits in May. Something about working professionally in Information Technology/Information Security and pursuing it as a full-time academic endeavor has left me in a state of moderate burn-out. I initially intended this writing space to be for anything I needed to think through and wanted to write out, however I've had a major lack of motivation to create anything at all here the last couple of months.
I'm trying some new accountability tasks, I've create a pretty awesome Markdown template in obsidian to help keep my personal development/growth focused.
Part of the problem with the road of the aspirational polymath is that when everything is sort of interesting it's hard to get lost in a project.
Currently refining my programming skills now that I'm out of academia using the boot.dev platform The residual issue is that I still am struggling with what problems in the world I want to solve. I think AI safety is going to be the most pressing issue in the next decade, but I'm still working on how I can help affect research/writing in that arena. Large Learning models are so complex that I not only need to find time to bear down and just understand how they work at a deeper level but also how we can influence private companies and nation states to not end the world in pursuit of geopolitical power or money.
Anyway, I'll be back. Stay classy.
